21-23 and 29-31 August, Skopje, North Macedonia – UNODC in cooperation with the Academy for Judges and Prosecutors of North Macedonia conducted two training workshops as part of the “Combating Low-Scale Corruption” project, which aims to create and implement a comprehensive Anti-Corruption Training Program for judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers. The objective of the project is to strengthen the ability of practitioners in North Macedonia to effectively identify, investigate, prosecute, and adjudicate cases of low-level corruption.
The workshops were designed to provide practical training, equipping future judges and prosecutors with essential skills on key topics such as national anti-corruption laws, regulations, best practices, innovative detection and investigation techniques for low-scale corruption, and strategies for effective prosecution. This hands-on training ensures that participants are well-prepared to address real-world corruption challenges, instilling confidence in their abilities.
This initiative, a result of the collaborative efforts between the Academy and the UNODC Regional Office for South-Eastern Europe (ROSEE), aligns with the UNODC’s Regional Programme for South-Eastern Europe (RPSEE). With these workshops, all 97 attendees of the initial training programme of the Academy for Judges and Prosecutors received training on combating low-scale corruption in North Macedonia. The training programme on combating low-scale corruption was developed and validated in cooperation with the Academy and it became an integral part of the initial training programme for future judges and prosecutors.
Supported by funding from the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement, this training marks a significant advancement in preparing North Macedonia’s future judiciary and prosecutors to combat low-level corruption. It also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal 16, notably Target 16.5, which aims to significantly reduce all forms of corruption and bribery.
